HYDERABAD: Demanding hike in salaries and job security, the Home Room Tutors and mentors of IIITs under Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) boycotted duties and launched an indefinite strike on Thursday. Anticipating trouble, RGUKT authorities declared holidays and sent the students home apart from removing some 240 HRTs from service leading to statewide protests.
Nearly 240 HRTs from the IIITs at Nuzivid have been sacked for reportedly demanding payment of salaries as per the UGC norms. They complained that the university has been violating the UGC norms with regard to number of working hours and also salary payments.Speaking to Express, the IIITs HRTs president G Haribabu said the managements had terminated 240 HRTs working in three IIITs including Nuzvid, Idupulapaya and Basara on Wednesday for demanding the management to follow UGC norms in salary payments and working hours. After the termination, they were given 24 hours time to vacate the campus and imposed Section 144 to avoid protests.
