Chandigarh: Rebel Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Kurukshetra Raj Kumar Saini is all set to float his political outfit this month.
While the exact date has not been announced, the backward class leader is attending various socio-political programmes in an effort to woo non-Jat voters.
On Sunday, Saini held a roadshow in Rohtak, the turf of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. In a show of strength, he drove five kilometres across the city with a cavalcade of motorists amid heavy security, though he claimed he was in the area for a private function.
“We will form our party in the month of June,” he told the media. Alleging that five former chief ministers from the “other community” had discriminated against the backward classes, Saini said 52 percent of the population had been restricted to a mere 11.23 percent, referring to the percentage of people from the backward classes in government jobs.
Taking a dig at Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, he said, “The only grudge with Khattar is why is he a chief minister while I am not?” Saini is reportedly upset with the Khattar government for the way it dealt with the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS).
The 64-year-old Saini has been trying to project himself as the chief ministerial candidate in the upcoming assembly polls and has taken on the Jat community for the purpose.
A vocal critic of the reservation granted to Jats, he has consistently drawn their ire in return. Saini and Jat leader Yashpal Malik kept the state government on its toes last November when they held simultaneous rallies in Jind and Rohtak.
Tensions are simmering again as Saini plans to attend a programme in the Jat belt of Jhajjar on June 10. Accusing him of disturbing social harmony, Jat leaders have threatened him with dire consequences if he shows up in Dubaldhan.
“I can’t comprehend why these people are opposing me. I am going there to attend a function by people of the Brahmin community. I am not afraid and I will go there,” said Saini.
If he comes to power, Saini — under his ‘inclusive model of social upliftment’ — plans to introduce “100 per cent reservation in government jobs for all castes so that they do not pounce on each other’s rights” and employment to at least one member of each family.
Responding to a question on when the BJP would remove him from the party, Saini said “wo unka kaam hai (That is their job)”.
