In his book ‘Exam Warriors’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi advises teachers to encourage innovative thinking in students.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s book ‘Exam Warriors’ will be launched in the national capital today. A guide for children on dealing with exam-related stress, the book also advises teachers on helping students cope with the anxiety.

Here’s the letter PM Modi has written to teachers in his book: Dear Teachers,

Let me begin by congratulating you on the wonderful work you are doing to mould and educate young minds. You belong to the noblest profession in our society and your hard work lays the foundation for a better tomorrow.

The relationship between a teacher and a student is special. Students look up to their teachers, and would no disobey them. That is why I am writing to you and seeking your support to communicate some of the ideas in this book to your students.

Needless to say, as teachers, you are vital to this effort of encouraging and supporting our Exam Warriors. As the exams approach, some students may become nervous and develop cold feet. I am sure you will give go out of your way to help them overcome their anxieties.

Every student is unique and blessed with various strengths. Your role is that of a facilitator who brings out the best in your students. Teach your students not only what is in the textbooks but also beyond. Enable them to be original and rooted thinkers who are blessed with a thirst for knowledge, a spirit of inquiry and a zeal for innovation.

It is understandable for students and parents to be thinking about college and career choices after the exams. It is heartening to note that more and more schools are institutionalising practices of mentoring, where faculty members guide students based on the many opportunities available, in tune with their aptitude. Teachers are also helping them identify the institutions for higher studies best suited to their interests.

I hope you empower your students to pursue their interests as well as create their own opportunities. Motivate them so that they do something driven by their passion instead of seeking to become something. Today’s world has numerous opportunities for the youth, which they must harness.

I also request you to keep discussing with your students how they can sit for exams in a tension-free manner, without being burdened by pressure, and how they should always pursue knowledge and not marks… issues that I have also tried to address in this book.

My best wishes in your continued quest to educate young minds!

Yours,

Narendra Modi
