BANGALORE: Strongly refuting allegations that she had acquired four acres of land in Bangalore district by producing false documents when she was Karnataka Governor, V S Ramadevi has asked task force committee chairman A T Ramaswamy to unconditionally apologise or face legal action.
"The allegations made in the report of the task force on encroachment of lands against me are malicious and nothing short of character assassination. I am a lawabiding citizen leading a simple life with the pension I get. The Ramaswamyled task force has damaged my reputation and I demand an inquiry into the whole episode," Ramadevi told reporters on Saturday. She had served as the Karnataka Governor between 1999 and 2002. According to the former Governor, the mutation copy mentions another person named Ramadevi who is said to own four acres of land in Jaala hobli of Bangalore urban district.

"Not all Ramadevis are ex-Governors. I have produced the copies of the revenue department which say that the land is in the name of Ramadevi but it is not me. Ramaswamy ought to have been more careful before mentioning my name to the media. I want him to apologise or I will file a defamation suit against him," Ramadevi added.

She also stoutly denied that a case was registered against her under section 136(3) of Land Revenue Act but the special DC had dropped it, as told by Ramaswamy to the media.
