Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Raj Thackeray on Sunday resigned from the party's executive committee and as chief of the party's student wing questioning Sena executive president and cousin Uddhav's leadership.
Addressing a rally organised by his supporters, Raj said he was not aiming for executive presidentship of the party and it was he who had put forward Uddhav's name for the post of executive president.
"I think there I shot myself in the foot," said Raj.
Raj said his move was not to embarass anybody but because he himself had been pushed into a corner by the coterie surrounding Uddhav.
He also accused the coterie close to the party leadership for both Sena's woes and his own sidelining in the party.
"These handful of people take any decision, make any mistakes, and I go out and try to defend them. Try to campaign for the party. How long I was to tolerate this?" Raj said.
He also accused people close to Bal Thackeray of "poisoning" the Sena supreme against him.
According to Raj, Bal Thackeray alone was his god and will remain so in future.
"I had never wanted to break up Shiv Sena," Raj said adding 'I remained silent for Balasaheb's sake all these years'.
