Action has been taken against 126 students for their involvement in violence at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology on April 4, officials said on Tuesday.

Varying punitive actions have been taken against the students like fines ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 15,000, expulsion from hostel and monitoring of their activity for up to one year, the university's media in-charge said.

The university had formed a 22-member committee to probe the incident and on the basis of video footages and other evidences 126 students were identified, he said.

On April 4, students had attacked former VC PK Sharma and other faculty members during a protest demanding admission in the next semester despite the passing of the last date of admission.

The students had caused damage to the property and entered into hooliganism. Following the violence, the college remained shut down for about a month and was reopened on May 3.
