THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM politburo member Brinda Karat has said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must have been aware of the conspiracy hatched by the then Union Minister A Raja and his associates in the allotment of 2G Spectrum. Inaugurating the state office of the All-India Democratic Women’s  Association (AIDWA) here on Thursday, she said that Home Minister P Chidambaram, who was the Finance Minister during the first UPA Government, was also involved in the conspiracy. ‘’It is not the CPM or any other opposition party which levelled the allegation against Chidambaram. Chidambaram’s Cabinet colleague and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukharjee has written about this to the Prime Minister. Now it his clear that Prime Minister himself was also a party to the silent conspiracy,’’ Brinda Karat said.   She demanded that the role of Chidamabaram should also be brought under the purview of the CBI investigation. Corruption in public life had spread to everywhere ever since the days of the first UPA Government. But the rulers in Delhi are still claiming that everything is OK with the  administration, the CPM leader said. Taking a dig at some of the allegedly tainted ministers in the UDF Government in Kerala, Brinda Karat said that some of the top political leaders involved in sex-related crimes were being resurrected and made even ministers. It is a matter of both concern and shame, she said.  Alluding to a recent incident in which a girl was sexually harassed by her relatives, she exhorted the AIDWA activists to set out on a campaign  against sexual violence against women.  She said that some of the social vices, which were eradicated by the intervention of social reformers in the past, had started reappearing in the state again.  She said that emulating the stands taken by AKG and EMS the women should continue to fight the social evils.  AIDWA state president T N Seema MP presided over the meeting.  All-India general secretary Sudha Sundararaman inaugurated the  ‘Sthreesabdam’ office.  Speaking on the occasion, Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan said that UDF Government had destroyed the health sector in the state, paving the way for the epidemics to resurface in a short span of time. ‘’The UDF Government has adopted a stand supportive of five-star hospitals,’’ he said. CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan was the guest of honour.  CPM district secretary Kadakampally Surendran and PK Sainaba offered felicitations.
