BHUBANESWAR: Vikash Senapati dialled 100, not for police help but to play pranks. The prankster landed in the police station on Saturday. The 25-year-old, as police found out, had been calling the police control room seeking the PCR van’s help at different places. Every time, the police rushed to the spot, it found out that nothing had happened and someone given a wrong information. However, after several such calls which yielded no result, the police tried to analyse where the calls came from. The calls were traced to Vikash, who originally belongs to Niali but lives in Sahid Nagar area. Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh said the youth made close to half a dozen calls on Saturday following which his number was traced. “He has been detained and we are verifying the reasons why he made these calls,” he said. Vikash probably did not know that the modern police control room, inaugurated earlier this year by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, was well equipped not only to help the PCR vans reach out to the distressed and needy but also to trace the caller in case something went wrong. The police control room used to get quite a few prank calls but their number has dropped significantly.
