BANGALORE: Finally, pourakarmikas across the State will get a revised pay scale. Urban Development Minister Suresh Kumar announced on Thursday that a  salary of Rs 6,600 per month will be given to pourakarmikas working across all cities and Muncipal corporations in Karnataka. With this, the pourakarmikas withdrew their strike.Veerabhadra Chennamalla Swamiji of the Nidumamidi Mutt was on a hunger strike to support the pourakarmikas. Suresh Kumar visited the Freedom Park where the protest was going on and promised to increase their wages. He later conducted a meeting with secretaries of Finance Department, Urban Development, Law Department, Labour Department, BBMP and Labour Department Commissioners and decided to implement the new wages. It will be implemented from April 1 and the salaries will be distributed through cheques. Pourakarmikas withdrew their protest after Suresh Kumar handed over the order copy to Nidumamidi seer.With this, more than 35,000 Pourakarmikas working across the State  will get a revised pay scale. For A grade cities, salary is Rs 194 per day, Rs 164 for B grade cities and Rs 134 for C grade cities.  Bangalore is an A grade city and powrakarmikas working here will get atleast Rs 6,600 per month.It may be recalled that Narayan, President of Karnataka State Corporation, Muncipality, Town Muncipality Pourakarmika federation in a press meet on Wednesday had demanded for the implementation of revised pay scale.
