Police misfired victims kin

KHAMMAM: Two students died in police misfiring on the Police Commemoration Day last year. The incident during the open house programme conducted by the district police at ZP high school in Velerupadu.A class VIII student Pasumarthy Satyasaibaba (13) son of Tirupathi Rao, Medepalli Venkatakrishna (15), a class X student and son of Venkateswarlu, died after a constable misfired his rifle.The district collector and the SP had announced Rs 5 lakh exgratio, a home guard job and 5 acres of land to the vicitms’ families. After 8 months, the family members are yet to get the land assured to them.While the government has given Rs 5 lakh compensation and the promised home guard job, the family members of the vicitms said they have spent nearly Rs 20,000 for transportation and other expenditure to get the land assured by the government. They are still waiting. Tirupathi Rao, father of Satyasaibaba and M Venkateswarlu, father of Venkatakrishna said the officials proposed allotment of land in Velerupadu but that area would be submerged under the Polavaram project. Hence they met the district collector and the SP several times and gave representations for allottment of the land in either Aswaraopet or Dammapet mandals. However, there has been no news from the government on this.
