UP goes to polls sometime in February or March next year. We all know that its Chief Minister Mayawati thinks she is in an extremely powerful position. So, if we do a crystal-ball gazing, what would we be actually looking at? The UPA feels it stands a serious chance of dislodging Mayawati from her position in 2012 if the Rahul Gandhi factor works wonders in the state.We have already seen the trusted Rahul aide, Jairam Ramesh, writing a letter to Mayawati suggesting a massive irregularity to the tune of Rs 600 crore in the allotment of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) funds. The threat of a CBI probe or a CAG enquiry already looms over various projects of the UP government.It's interesting how the UPA wants to use the same CAG – which acted against it in the various scams that came out this year – to now target its political opponents. But the clever politician that Mayawati is, she might use these threats as another opportunity to play her politics of victimhood.In any case, the battle for UP has begun and promises to be thrilling as ever.
