Kolkata: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday sent an emissary to Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee, who has been fasting for the last 21 days to protest TATA's Rs one-lakh car project in Singur.
The PM sent Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister to meet Mamata Banerjee on Saturday.
Pradesh Congress Committee Working President Pradeep Bhattacharya said Singh was worried about Mamata's health and hoped she would end the fast soon.
Congress leader Sudip Bandhopadhaya and Bhattacharya said Singh had told them that though industry was key to development, it should not be at the cost of poor people depending on agriculture.
Bhattacharya said the PM hoped a solution to the Singur issue would be found soon.
