New Delhi: Born on May 1, 1919, Prabodh Chandra Dey, popularly known as Manna Dey, is a highly acclaimed singer in several languages including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and Malayalam.
With more than 3500 songs to his credit, Manna Dey represents the golden era of Hindi film songs. He along with Mohammad Rafi, Kishor Kumar and Mukesh made Hindi film songs an integral part of a common Indian audience's life.
The Indian government also recognised Manna Dey's contribution towards the Indian music and thus awarded him with Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007.
Known for his grip on Indian classical music, Manna Dey has given some of the immortal songs to the lovers of Hindi film music.
His meaningful songs in films such as 'Teesri Kasam', 'Upkaar', 'Love in Tokyo', and 'Anand' give the listeners a hope to achieve the desired goals in life.
