Expressing concern over social evils like female foeticide and child marriage, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Thursday asked women to play a key role in bringing about a positive change in the society.
Speaking on the topic "Role of Women Entrepreneurs in Indian Economy", Swaraj asked if a girl child is not allowed to be born, then how women leadership and entrepreneurship could grow.
"It is an irony that we worship 'Devi' during Navaratra twice a year and conclude the nine-day festival by worshipping girl children living next door, but we do not allow a girl child to be born in our own home," she lamented.
She said efforts were needed for making workplaces safer for women and work on issues like women education as well as empowerment women economically.
Swaraj was delivering her address at the inaugural function of woman wing of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) during which the CAIT representatives requested her to conduct a review of laws which cover trade and industry people.
