KOCHI: The work on the Kochi Metro is likely to begin soon as the two piling machines from abroad are expected to reach here in a couple of days to carry out the piling at Ernakulam North Railway Overbridge.The crane and silo for mixing concrete have already reached the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation office at Kaloor. The hydraulic rotary rigs are being brought from Italy by the contractors Cheriyan Varkey group. The rigs were shipped about a month ago, DMRC sources said. The rigs arrived at Mumbai about a couple of weeks ago. The hydraulic rigs can drill a maximum of three piles a day. But the plan is to have two rigs.The aim is to start work on August 27, sources said. A total of 204 piles are to be rigged for the bridge at North. The aim is to complete the work in 18 months.
