New Delhi: It is the sixth day of protests against military rule in Myanmar. About 20,000 people, including Buddhist monks and nuns, marched in Yangon on Sunday from the golden Shwedagon Pagoda, the most important landmark in Yangon.

The monks have been holding daily protests in Yangon since Tuesday, but it was the first time on Sunday that the common people joined them.

On Saturday, detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi had joined the protest.

The demonstrations are being seen as the most serious challenge to the ruling junta in nearly two decades.
