CHENNAI: Former Minister and Deputy General Secretary of the DMK, Parithi Ellamvazhuthi, on Friday resigned from the party post protesting the re-admission of some functionaries into the party who had worked against him during the April 13 Assembly elections.  “Long live intra-party democracy of the party!”, Ellamvazhuthi said in his letter to Karunanidhi. The move of Ellamvazhuthi, a long-time party functionary who has been in the good books of party chief M Karunanidhi as well as party treasurer MK Stalin, has come as a surprise to many. Parithi is the first frontline leader to quit the party post after Assembly elections. A handwritten letter of Parithi addressed to party president M Karunanidhi said he was resigning from the party as certain actions taken by him (Karunanidhi) had wounded his self-respect. However, Ellamvazhuthi could not be contacted for his comments. DMK’s mouthpiece Murasoli, on October 8, carried an announcement about the revocation of suspension of three party functionaries from Egmore area. Sources said Ellamvazhuthi was not even informed about the revocation of suspension and came to know about it only through *Murasoli*. Ellamvazhuthi was upset by the action.
