The arrest of Pakistani terrorist Usman Khan alias Naved has pointed at some new information concerning cross-border terrorism. Apart from revealing new routes being accessed by terrorists, the attack in Udhampur, subsequently leading to Usman's arrest, shows how the terrorists are striking at places that have not been the usual targets.
According to sources in the investigating agencies, the interrogation of captured terrorist Usman has yielded some good information on cross border terrorism.
Here’s what the Udhampur attack and Usman's arrest have revealed:
1. New areas for crossing the border and attacks have been identified by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
2. LeT trainers told the terrorists that routine routes are fully guarded by security forces and that they should avoid them.
3. Places like Udhampur and Gurdaspur feature in the new list of Pak based terrorists.
4. New motivation being given by LeT is to attack only security forces. This gives strong message for new recruitment and motivation.
5. Attacking convoy of security forces means more casualties also.
6. Before attacking the BSF on Wednesday, proper reccee was done by Usman and his accomplice.
7. Full plan was made to attack the tyre of a van first.
Apart from the new modus operandi of terror groups like LeT, sources also revealed some facts about Usman alias Naved:
1. Usman is a trained LeT terrorist.
2. Got two rounds of training in Primary and Secondary combat in their camps.
3. Primary training is more of audio visual round and is aimed at motivating the operatives while in the second round, they are imparted arms training.
4. Operatives are highly motivated and sent to India after proper brainwash.
5. Usman alias Naved was in touch with many local outfits after entering India.
6. Usman has not been consistent in his interrogation so far.
