THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More than 42,000 students from the district will appear for the SSLC examinations beginning on Monday. The question papers have been safely locked inside the Treasury and SBT branches in the district, to be taken out when the examinations begin. According to the DDE, Thiruvananthapuram, Viswalatha, everything has been put in place for the smooth conduct of the examinations. The sealed question papers were sorted and received by the concerned DEOs and taken into safe custody with police protection. The question papers will now be withdrawn from the Treasury and SBT branches as per the date of examinations. In the Neyyattinkara education district, 13,392 students are appearing for the exams, while in Attingal educational district, the number is 15,261 and in Thiruvananthapuram, it is 13,662. With Piravom byelection falling on March 17, the exam on that day has been postponed to March 26, extending the conclusion of the examinations. In the State, a total of 9,000 students are writing the examination in the CWSN (children with special needs) category. In Neyyattinkara, 273 students have applied to take the examinations under mentally retarded, visually-challenged, hearing impaired and other disabled categories. In Attingal, the number is 150 and in Thiruvananthapuram, 461. According to DPI, Integrated Education for the Disabled (IED), Deputy Director R Rajan, a clear picture would be available only by Saturday as more applications are still coming in. ‘’Interpreters and scribes have been arranged for the students,’’ he said. It is the Pattom St Mary’s Higher Secondary School where the most number of students are appearing for the SSLC examinations in the State. In Cotton Hill GHSS too, a big number of students are taking the examinations.
