HYDERABAD: The special CBI court reserved orders on the bail petition of suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi for Thursday. Srilakshmi was arrested in a case related to illegal iron mining by Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) and is presently lodged at Cherlapally central prison.Srilakshmi’s counsel argued that she should be released on bail under Section 167 of the CrPC. Srilakshmi was not charged with Section 409 (criminal breach of trust) and she had completed judicial remand of more than 60 days and she should be released, the counsel contended. “All offences are within seven years (of punishment) and the maximum extendable remand is 60 days which expired on February 29,’’ the counsel pointed out. On its part CBI deputy legal advisor B Ravindranath said Section 167 (2) applies to Srilakshmi. ‘The offences are serious in nature and Section 409 will apply to petitioner. She is a public servant and incharge of leasing mines. She has to follow norms,’’ the CBI counsel argued. Further, Ravindranath argued that she is entitled to 90 days of remand which would end only on March 30.After hearing both the arguments magistrate B Naga Maruthi Sharma posted the orders on bail petition for Thursday. Meanwhile the special CBI court on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of BV Srinivas Reddy and VD Rajagopal, both accused in the illegal mining case till April 4. Gali Janardhan Reddy is also an accused in the case and the officials filed a memo in the court stating that he is presently lodged in a prison in Bangalore. His remand was also extended till April 4.
