CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has upheld a Government Order (GO) from the School Education Department, prescribing teacher eligibility test for those who have completed certificate verification held by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) for appointment as BT Assistants.Justice K Chandru upheld the GO, while dismissing a writ petition from the TN Pattathari Asiriyargal Velaivoipu Sangam, which challenged the GO dated November 15, 2011.There was no illegality in prescribing such test as the minimum requirement for entry into government service. It was in exercise of power under the Central enactment that the directions had been issued. The State government was bound to obey the same. Hence, the petitioner could not be heard to challenge the prescription of criteria for entry into the government service as illegal, the judge added and dismissed the petition.
