CHENNAI: The annual learning symposium, No Kidding 2012, was recently held in the city. Kick started by Dr Alok Bajpai (IIT Kanpur), who has been an integral part of this symposium for last three years, his address to the parents gathered was about the impact of technology on the psyche of a child. He said that the sensible usage of technology, in turn, would help the younger generation to channelise their talents. This was followed by a panel discussion which focussed on ‘Future Opportunities in Arts and Media’ and had personalities like Anil Srinivasan (carnatic pianist), Vijayalakshmi (Mohiniyattam exponent), Sunil Vishnu (Evam), Shakthi Girish (Galatta.com), Shylaja Chetlur (Art n Soul) and Sudarsan Padmanabhan (IIT Madras) as panelists. They spoke about the opportunities that the world of arts offers in advertising, fine arts, music, dance, theatre and public relations. They also shared information about various courses available in each of these fields to hone one’s passion further to making it a lucrative career option. The second day began with a skype session with Andrew Gardner (son of Howard Gardener) live from New York (who is an educationist and works with BrainPOP), who spoke how technology has brought in a paradigm shift in the realm of the present day education system. The panel discussion for day two saw panelists like Gayathri Sriram (UCAL Auto), Sudheer Nayar (South India Hotels and Restaurants Association), Jaishankar (Kotak Mahindra Bank), Raymond Arogyaswamy (Polaris), Mohan Rajan (Rajan Eye Care) discuss about wide career opportunities in the field of banking, IT, automotive, health and hospitality industry. The latter half of the day had guest speakers like P Murari from FICCI, who shared inspiring incidents from his very interesting and vibrant career.
