Washington: Popular Indian-American "Bhangra Queen" Rekha Malhotra has been invited by US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to perform live at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll.
As many as 30,000 people from across the United States are expected to attend the annual White House event, a rare occasion when the building is thrown open to the public.
The White House invitation for DJ Rekha is a recognition of years of hard work during which she has helped popularise "bhangra" in the United States.
Easter Egg Roll is the largest event of the White House and is held on Easter Monday as a gaming event for children and their parents.
"DJ Rekha and DJ WillyWow will perform on the ellipse. The official Emcee of the 2011 White House Easter Egg Roll is Tommy McFly. He will introduce acts on the music stage and get everyone excited about the different Egg Roll activities to make for another wonderful Easter Egg Roll," the White House said, as it announced its entire talent line up for the prestigious event.
The theme of the event is 'Get Up and Go!' and focuses on promoting health and wellness and encourage children to lead healthy and active lives.
This is a central part of the First Lady's 'Let's Move!' initiative, which is a national effort to combat childhood obesity, the White House said.
