THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reminiscent of the Sister Abhaya episode, a nun was found dead in the underground water tank of a convent at Poonkulam near Kovalam on Wednesday.Sister Mary Ancy, 48, a teacher at Holy Cross Lower Primary School, was an inmate of the convent near the school. The police have ruled out any foul play and dismissed it as a case of ‘conscious drowning’ based on the post-mortem report which did not find any mark of injuries on her body. The nun, who hails from Kottayam, went missing from her room where she had gone to sleep on Tuesday night after prayers and her body was found in the water tank early in the morning by fellow inmates. The heavy slab of the tank had been removed fuelling speculation that it was a case of murder. Local people thronged the convent and the police had a tough time controlling the mob.But the post-mortem report put to rest all the rumours. Police have registered a case of suspicious death. “The post-mortem report clearly states that death was due to drowning and there was no mark on the body to suspect any attack or struggle. The nun had been upset since a week as she had some health problem. The body was released to the relatives in Kottayam after the post-mortem,” a police source said.Police also dismissed the claim that someone else could have removed the slab. It could have been dragged slowly by Sister Ancy herself as she had a good physique. Meanwhile, Ancy’s colleagues in the school said that lately she was depressed after she developed some skin disease. She also complained about lack of sleep and told them that she was under medication. But they are yet to come to terms with the thought that she has ended her life due to health problems.Sister Ancy was teaching in the school for the last 21 years and shared good relations with other colleagues and sisters in the convent
