CHENNAI: Robio, an indigenously-developed robotic equipment by Chennai-based healthcare company Perfint, was on Wednesday dedicated to the Adyar Cancer Institute in order to facilitate greater precision in conducting biopsies and delivering palliative care. The robotic targeting system, costing ` 15 lakh in India, assists in placing a needle to the exact location of the tumour, in order to conduct a biopsy or deliver a medicine for patient care.A targeting system for CT-guided oncology interventions, the Robio assists the doctors to reach the exact tumour location, after which the doctor simply has to insert the needle in the patient. Robio can be used on a tumour which could be less than 10 mm in size. “Usually, this is done free hand by doctors themselves who use a CT-image and plan to reach the exact tumour spot. This requires a high degree of expertise, but with the equipment, reaching the tumour becomes simpler, and is more accurate,” explained S Nandakumar, CEO of Perfint Healthcare.  Precision in reaching the targeted spot was very high, with less than a 3 mm margin for difference, he explained.
