Justice K Chandru of the High Court has ordered notice to the City Police Commissioner on a writ plea from the Chennai unit of an Anti-Corruption Association praying for a direction to the CoP to grant permission to hold a fast.
According to Association president M Jahir Hussain, they decided to stage a fast for 10 days from July 29, in line with Anna Hazare, who had undertaken the fast in New Delhi. By an application dated July 27 last, the association sought permission. But, the police refused even to receive the application. This was against the principles of natural justice and the right to expression.
