Berlin: Dortmund's veteran international defender Christian Worns will not be selected for this summer's World Cup finals, Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann said on Friday, reacting to criticism from the player.
The 33-year-old Worns was very disappointed at not being picked for the March 1 friendly international against Italy in Florence, saying he was unhappy at both his non-selection and the manner in which he was informed.
"It is a huge disappointment, both in style and substance, because I was informed of my non-selection by a journalist and not by the coach," said Worns.
Klinsmann reacted by saying: "His comments are completely incomprehensible to me and we cannot accept what he has said."
The 2006 World Cup finals take place in Germany from June 9 to July 9.
