After reports surfaced that the Assam government had offered safe passage to ULFA leader Paresh Baruah, the Tarun Gogoi government has asserted that no such offer was made.
The government claimed that the Assam Chief Minister had merely made a remark in passing to a journalist that led to speculation.
Meanwhile, the man at the centre of the storm, Paresh Baruah, has also gone on record to say he doesn't need the Assam government to provide him safe passage to visit his ailing mother in Dibrugarh.
The Hindu reports quoted Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju as saying that the Assam government should not undermine national interest by offering support to a 'terrorist'.
