No mechanism to block a suspicious SIM cards exists in current system.
New Delhi: In an effort to crackdown on SIM cards issued using fake identities more effectively, security agencies have approached the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) asking for power to block suspicious mobile numbers.
Currently there is no mechanism in place where police or any security agency can ask the service providers to block a SIM cards.
The move comes after reports that several SIM cards, especially from Jammu and Kashmir, have landed in the hands of terror groups, including the Lashker-e-Taiba.
