Chennai: The Madras High Court on Tuesday restrained cell phone service providers across the country from giving cricket scores of the ongoing India-Pakistan cricket series on mobile phones.
The interim injunction was granted by Justice M Chokalingam on a petition filed by a firm, Marksman Marketing Services Private Ltd.
Marksman claimed that Pakistani-based company Vectracom had acquired the global rights for sending SMS pertaining to the series being played in Pakistan.
Vectracom in turn had granted exclusive SMS rights for India to Marksman Marketing.
As per the agreement, all mobile operators in India should obtain permission from Marksman Marketing before giving SMS alerts on indo-Pak cricket matches.
PS Raman, lawyer for Marksmen said, "Markesmen Marketing have issued letters to all telecom operatores in India bringing to their notice that they are now exclisive owners of this rights and ask them to request them for permissions and get licenses from them but nobody responded."
