Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said that he should be consulted before appointing a new Bihar governor.
"Whoever is appointed as the governor should be neutral. This should be followed in all the states. The ruling party should be consulted," Nitish said.
President APJ Abdul Kalam has already accepted the resignation of Buta Singh who had stepped down in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict indicting him for dissolution of the state assembly last year.
West Bengal Governor Gopal Gandhi has been asked to exercise the duty as Bihar Governor also in addition to his present responsibility, Rashtrapati Bhawan sources said.
On Thursday Buta Singh had resigned as the Governor of Bihar after he was severly indicted by Supreme Court for his report that led to the dissolution of the state Assembly in May 2005.
Nitish, who had launched a 'Nyay Yatra' seeking recall of the governor ahead of the November Assembly elections, had refused to make any comment on the resignation of Buta Singh. He accused Congress and its allies of having played a role in the dissolution of the Assembly which was held unconstitutional by the apex court.
"Why only Congress? Its allies too were responsible for the dissolution by creating pressure (on the Union Government)," he said in an apparent reference to RJD.
RJD President Lalu Prasad, who was accused of having prevailed upon other colleagues in the union cabinet to recommend to the President the dissolution, had hailed Buta's resignation saying he had upheld a 'healthy tradition'.
In a severe castigation of Buta Singh, the Supreme Court had on Tuesday said his recommendation for imposition of President's Rule was based on his 'fanciful assumptions', was 'misleading' and solely aimed at preventing JD(U) and BJP from forming the government.
