New Delhi: Thirty days are not enough for Noida Authority and Uttar Pradesh Police to give suitable answer on Nithari serial killings.
RTI activist Commodore Lokesh Batra had in an application under RTI sought information on certain aspects of the case such as police handling of the missing persons cases and cleaning of drains in the area by the local authority.
But the authority and the police have failed to honour the deadline for replying to applications under the Right to Information Act seeking information regarding the Nithari serial killings case.
The 30 days' deadline under RTI for providing information ended on Sunday.
The information sought from the police included how many complaints were received in the last two years about missing children, what action was taken on each complaint, steps taken against erring officers and what was done with regard to directions given by the National Commission of Women.
Noida Authority was asked queries such as which local body was entrusted with the task of maintaining sanitation in the area, the penalties and punishments for not carrying out the task properly, whether anything unusual was noticed in the drain near serial killings accused Moninder Singh Pandher and the at what intervals the drain was desilted.
"These questions would in fact reveal the truth. They could also make life difficult for many officers and hence they have chosen to avoid them," said Batra as quoted by PTI.
Skeletal remains of several children and women were recovered from the drain near Moninder Singh Pandher's house in D-5, Sector-31 in Noida.
Failing to give suitable answer for the failure to honour the deadline, Noida Authority spokesman merely said, "This is harassment", while police was not available for comments.
