Celebrities frequently become targets of impersonation on social media. However, there are instances when the situation escalates, needing celebrities to seek assistance from law enforcement and legal authorities to address the issue. The latest victim is actress Vidya Balan. She has lodged a complaint with the Khar police, taking legal action against an unidentified individual who created fake email, Instagram and WhatsApp accounts in her name. The perpetrator used these accounts to allegedly ask money from people in Bollywood by falsely promising work opportunities.
The actress found out about the impersonation when a designer she had worked with got a WhatsApp message from an unknown number in January. The imposter, pretending to be Vidya Balan, expressed interest in working together and suggested discussing it further if the designer was interested.
The designer immediately contacted the actress to alert her that someone claiming to be her had texted him. Balan was informed about similar activities being done over e-mail as well as on Instagram by other industry contacts,” said an official from Khar police, as quoted by HT.
The police have taken action against the unknown imposter based on the complaint, citing relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. They are now investigating further.
On the work front, Vidya Balan will return as Manjulika in the hit franchise Bhool Bhulaiya. Last week, Kartik Aaryan confirmed the news by sharing a montage of scenes from ‘Ami Je Tomar’ dance that was performed by him in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 as well as Vdiya Balan’s performance from Bhool Bhulaiyaa. The much-anticipated third installment of the hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise is all set to go on floors soon. Headlined by Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani with a spectacular performance by Tabu, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 released in 2022 and grossed over 180 crore in India. The film also starred Rajpal Yadav.
