HYDERABAD: Motorists will have to negotiate gaping potholes on most city stretches for the next two months, as no re-carpeting of roads can take place before November.“Moderate to heavy rains are predicted during September and October and as such re-carpeting of damaged roads can only be taken up after monsoon is over,” mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and GHMC commissioner MT Krishna Babu have said.Following on from Sunday’s inspection of some major roads in city by this correspondent, it was found stretches at Erramanzil, Greenlands, Borabanda, Moti Nagar, AC Guards, Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar, Nampally, Mehdipatnam, Chapel Road, SP Road, Ranigunj, Kavadiguda, Khairatabad, Balkampet, Feelkhana, Begum Bazar are also in very bad shape.“Ee road Erragadda-Moosapet roadchala adhvananga taayar ayindi, rojuku nalguru leda iadu mandi guntallo padutaru sarigga bandi nadpiya leka inka road sarigga leka (The road is very bumpy and uneven resulting in skidding of vehicles and accidents),” fumed Srinivasa Chary of Borabanda. The road is getting worse and no one is least bothered in repairing the road, he added. As per rough estimates, nearly 150 to 175 km of roads have been badly damaged due to the recent rains.“Yeh road ek mahine se kharab ho gaya hain baarish ke wajeh se aur isko ko koi bhi theek nahi karta. Hamare area ke corporator or MLA or officials koi bhi isko theek karne ka interest nahin deekhate (“The road got battered about a month ago and neither the area corporator, local MLA or officials are least bothered to repair the stretch”),” Ramesh Kumar of Moti Nagar said.GHMC officials said re-carpeting of battered roads would be taken up only after the two months when the monsoon is over. “This is where Tamil Nadu governor K Rosaiah stays but see how bad is the condition of the road. If the situation here is like this what would be it in other places?” questioned Muralikrishna, a resident of Balkampet.GHMC is likely to start the process of identifying damaged roads next month. As the chances of more roads getting damaged is possible, the civic body has tentatively sanctioned Rs 60 crore for the repairs. At present, GHMC is only taking up temporary pothole fillings.
