KOCHI: The cardiology department of Amrita Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre has installed a new state of the art three dimensional noncontact mapping and navigation system. The system will facilitate accurate mapping and navigation of catheters to spot the origin of abnormal rhythm in the heart.According to the hospital, the new system will improve the overall success rate in permanently curing various complex arrhythmias. It will also enable affordable treatment for the patients with complex life threatening rhythm disorders, such as scar related ventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation and complex arrhythmias in patients with congenital or acquired structural heart diseases.The procedure time and radiation dose to the operator as well as the patients also will be reduced. In 2000, Cardiac arrhythmia services were started at Amrita Institute to deal with various rhythm disorders of the heart. More than 4500 therapeutic procedures, with appreciable success rates, have been performed by the centre.The centre also provides specialized training to technologists and cardiologists.
