BANGALORE: In a bid to provide better protection for the animals in Bannerghatta National Park (BNP), the Department of Forests on Wednesday set up one more anti-poaching camp at the park premises. This is the fourth camp stationed at the BNP premises, said B K Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife).
The camps are constructed around sensitive areas, aimed to provide 24/7 protection to not only the wildlife but also to put a check on felling of trees and other illegal activities being carried out in the forest area, said a BNP official. Each camp has about four anti-poaching watchers. "These watchers are selected from the local tribals residing around the area who are well versed with the terrain and the forest track. In addition, these local tribals are familiar with the people and criminals around the area as well. The camps are equipped with a radio mobile and a weapon. Through these radio mobiles, the watchers can share information. Generally the sharing of information happens in the evening." the official said.
