CHENNAI: Finally, the modernised new terminals of the Chennai Airport are set to be opened for use by the end of this month. After a drawn out delay, the `2,200 crore project will see a soft launch where one or two airlines will move their operations into the new terminal, Airport Director EP Hareendranathan said.Coming in the light of a stand-off between airline operators and the AAI over the lack of “top-of-the-line” security features that have been provided as standard issue in other similar airports in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi, this shows some progress.“We have been continually talking to the operators and issues are being sorted out one at a time. It will be all right soon,” he added.When asked when there was likely to be an official inauguration, the Director said that there was no information regarding that as of now and added that it would happen once the systems and facilities had been tried and tested. However, the April 14 deadline that AAI Chairman V P Agrawal set for the new terminal to be inaugurated is unlikely to be met, though it is to AAI’s credit that the work is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
