KOCHI: To boost awareness and to popularise the latest technologies and methodologies used by neurosurgeons from across the globe, the International Neuro Scientists’ Summit-2012 will be held at the Indo-American Hospital’s Brain and Spine Centre in Chemmanakary in Vaikom, from March 8 to 10.The summit will see neuro-rehabilitationists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuro scientists and allied scientists, aiming at bringing everyone together under a same roof to discuss, learn, exchange and share knowledge and experiences.“In Kerala, neuro surgery has attained a status for being one of the best in the country. With extremely skilled doctors and good facilities available to the public, at least five per cent of morbidity rate caused due to nervous system disorders has been brought down. Such meets will enable us to exchange more views on neuro surgery,” said Dr George Kovoor, Senior Neurosurgeon with the Indo-American Hospital.M K Narayanan, Governor of West Bengal, will inaugurate the function. Dr Balaram, Director of Indian Institute of Science and Technology, Bangalore, will deliver a scientific oration on late Dr Gopinath Kartha. Chief Medical Officer HQ Southern Naval Command, Kochi Rear Admiral Nirmala Kannan will deliver the keynote address. The three-day summit will see a host of 350 delegates and will consist of three live workshops on skull base surgery demonstration, an endoscopic surgery demonstration and a Botox Workshop. A special surgery which was first formulated in Portugese, will also be shown. Technical sessions on Basic Sciences, Allied Sciences and Neuro Physiotherapy will be conducted. Dr Jacob Abraham, Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the National Institute of Tuberculosis Research and IIT Chennai will be honoured for his ‘Life Time Achievement in Service of Neurosurgery’ and Dr Bahuleyan will be honoured for his ‘Life Time Achievement in Service of Humanity.’Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the valedictory function on March 10. During the function, the Chief Minister will also inaugurate the stone-laying ceremony of the Indo-American Diagnostic Centre.
