Raipur: Suspected Naxalites ambushed a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) team patrolling in Kotampalli in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh killing 10 security personnel including Deputy Commandant Diwakar Tiwari.
Eight other CRPF jawans have been reported to be injured while three Naxals have also been killed in the shootout.
The police say over 100 Maoists, armed with AK-47s, ambushed a joint CRPF and district forces patrol.
PTI reports that Dantewada Superintendent of Police Rahul Sharma said that Naxalites attacked a patrol unit of CRPF's 55th battalion near Minta village under Chintagufa police station, about 200 km from district headquarters.
The exact nature of the attack-- use of landmines or gunfire-- is still to be ascertained as the area is located deep inside the forest and proper communication is being established.
The area has been cordoned-off and a joint team of the state police and CRPF are combing the site to nab the attackers, the officer said adding that the injured were airlifted and have been admitted to a hospital in Jagdalpur.
A total of 11 Lok Sabha seats will vote on April 16 in the state and additional battalions of CRPF and other paramilitary forces have already reached the state for pre-poll duties.
