National symposium from October 6

The World Noni Research Foundation (WNRF) and International Society of Noni Science (ISNS) will organise a ‘National Symposium on Noni Research 2012’, here on October 6 and 7.

Research is on to find the medicinal value of ‘Noni’ (Morinda Citrifolia), a fruit commonly found in coastal areas.

Noni is called ‘Nuna’ in Indonesia and ‘Indian Mulberry’ in India.

“It is a perennial plant which has many medicinal values. Since it has extreme immunity to salinity it is mostly grown in the coastal parts. The tribes from Polynesia Island were the first people to know its medical uses” said, K V Peter, Director, WNRF.

Dr Kirti Singh, president, ISNS, said, “To know more about the medical uses of Noni, we are engaged in research collaborations with many agri and veterinary universities all over the nation. At present, we are funding 43 projects worth 30 crores and over 160 nutraceuticals are detected till now in Noni fruit juice.”
