PUDUCHERRY: On the directions of chief minister N Rangasamy, the Puducherry council for science and technology, on Saturday, sanctioned Rs 30,000 to each of the three students , selected by NASA to participate in an international aero space conference at Big Sky, Montana, from March 3 to 10.Express, on February 18, had reported that the three students Divya Krishnamurthy, II-year B-tech student of computer science in Mailam Engineering college, Sherleena Sandou and Dheeyana Ramolina, both II-year B-tech of electronics and communication engineering, Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering and Technology, had been facing difficulties in meeting the finances necessary for the trip. Each needed a total of Rs 2.85 lakh to participate in IEEE aero space conference.Secretary, science and technology, G Theva neethi Dhas, said though there were no provision under the existing rules for such financial assistance, rules were amended to make the students eligible for the finance. The money would be released on Monday. MLA K Lakshminarayanan had also provided Rs 10,000.However, this would not be adequate. The amount received so far would not be sufficient even for their air travel. Promises have been made by others, but finance is yet to come in hand.Political leaders opine that chief minister should provide necessary funds from the chief minister’s relief fund. The colleges where the students are studying should also come forward to support the students.
