Muslim body seeks quota for the community
A prominent Muslim body demands separate quota regime for Muslims.

New Delhi: A prominent Muslim body on Saturday asked the Government to announce a separate quota regime for Muslims to increase their representation in different walks of life, including police and security forces.

In a resolution adopted at a meeting in Delhi, the All India Milli Council also asked the authorities to initiate legal action against police officers found guilty of killing people in fake encounters.

The Council demanded that cases of TADA and POTA accused be immediately dealth with.

Speaking at the national convention on 'Feeling of Insecurity among Muslims -- Its Probable Implications and Solutions,' former prime minister V P Singh said "Muslims, like any other community, has contributed to the growth of our country."

“Be it any field, science, technology, sports, films, Muslims have very well represented the nation."

"It would be unconstitutional if a community is not given justice, it deserves, and would be a hurdle in the process of national development," he added.

Madhu Kishwar, a noted activist, stressed on the need of upliftment of Muslim women and added that protection of minority's interest and their security is a litmus test for any secular democracy.
