Mumbai Police Assure Saira Banu of Fast Tracking Probe in Complaint Against 'Mafia' Builder
Saira Banu had approached Khar police station in January this year, alleging that Samir Bhojwani had forged documents to seize the actor’s property in Pali Hill, Bandra.

Mumbai: After Saira Banu’s repeated pleas on Twitter requesting for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protect veteran actor Dilip Kumar's bungalow from 'land mafia' Samir Bhojwani, who had claimed ownership of the actor’s property, the Mumbai police have assured an expeditious probe in the matter.

“Our senior Officer’s from the Economic Offences Wing have already met Saira Banu and assured her that the investigation against Bhojwani will be completed expeditiously and in a fair and timely manner. We have assured all the cooperation from our side," said Mumbai Police PRO Manjunath Singe.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has also met Banu and assured a thorough investigation in the matter.

Banu had approached Khar police station in January this year, alleging that Bhojwani had forged documents to usurp the actor’s property in Pali Hill, Bandra. A case was registered against Bhojwani for cheating and forgery and other sections of the IPC. The case was transferred to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW). He was however granted anticipatory bail in April.

The EOW had approached the Bombay High Court soon after, seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail. The matter will be heard by the court in January 2019.

Apart from this, Bhijwani was arrested in another similar case in April 2018, in which he had forged documents to take ownership of another plot of land in Malad belonging to Divyakant Khatau of Mulraj Khatau Trust. Although he was behind bars for four months now in this case, he was granted bail soon after.

“Because the accused being granted bail in the other case, Banu is apprehensive and it is understandable. Proper legal action will be taken and senior officials are looking into it," Singe said.

In her tweets, Banu had stated that she is being threatened by the accused and also slammed the Chief Minister for not taking any action despite him giving assurances.
