Mumbai gets first AC public toilet
For those of you who had given up hope of a good public toilet in the city, there's hope yet.

Mumbai: For those of you who had given up hope of a good public toilet in the city, there’s hope yet. The BMC has now made it possible for you to enjoy the cool comforts of an air-conditioned public toilet, all for Rs 4. The toilet is located at Dadar, near Plaza theatre. A total of five air-conditioners have been installed in the public toilet — two in the ladies’ section, two in the gents’ section, and one in the waiting area.

Sunita Manchanda, who came to Dadar on a shopping trip all the way from Santacruz, beamed about the newly-installed ACs but expressed disappointment about the lack of cleanliness. “I am using this toilet for the first time and am very impressed. They should come up with more such toilets in the city and focus more on the hygiene,” she said.

Jignesh Shah, a businessman from Worli, welcomed the BMC’s initiative. “We should thank them for thinking of such facilities. By paying just Rs 4 we can use air-conditioned toilets. We usually have to keep searching for toilets, and even though we pay to enter, they stink,” said Shah. The BMC has also hired cleaning staff to keep the conditions sanitary.

Mayor Sunil Prabhu, said, “We want to give Mumbaikars good toilets, and so this initiative was started. Authorities of Sulabh Shauchalaya thought of the air-conditioned ACs with a good garden beside it. This was a good spot so we decided to start the project with this toilet.” He also claimed that the response to the toilet has been positive, and more such may be planned soon.
