Mumbai: 28-year-old woman claims she was asked to vacate flat for being a transgender

Mumbai: There is no end to discrimination against transgender as a 28-year old Joe Paul, an advertising professional, claimed that she was asked to vacate her flat because she is a transgender.

She started living in a flat in Jogeshwari around two weeks back but the broker asked her to vacate it, she claimed. She said that she was asked to leave because she is a transgender.

She did not have direct contact with the landlord.

The broker whom she knew for sometime offered her the flat saying that the landlord has agreed and that documents will be given in a few days. She claimed that the broker was aware of her gender and sexual orientation.

She had paid rent, brokerage and even paid for repairs in the house. She had signed the agreement paper but landlord's sign was pending. She claimed that when she approached the broker again, he told her the landlord does not want a transgender tenant.

Broker, however, maintained that the landlord wanted a family and not a single person to live, which is why she was asked to leave.

What's your reaction?
