BANGALORE: Everyone in this world has a genius hidden within. Some make their mark at academics, some in sports, some are born with artistic fingers, while some surpass others with gifted dancing feet. All of us are creative in a way or the other. After all, didn’t we come up with thousands of innovative and artistic ideas for our undone homework or to skip school? But Radhika Prabhu, unlike most of us, always stood apart, outdoing all others and possessing all above mentioned skills at their finest. Whether academics or dance, painting or poetry, she made her mark at each.Born to the most respected and artistic family of the renowned actor Srinivasa Prabhu and poetess Ranjiji Prabhu, Radhika Prabhu has carved a niche for herself from the time she was at school. She proved herself as a multi talented B-town girl. With remarkable achievements in dance, painting and poetry, her journey to fame started at an early age of 10. Influenced by her mother, Radhika entered the graceful world of Bhratanatyam under the guidelines of her guru Shubha Dhanajay. “While I was undergoing training under guru Shubha Dhanajay, I travelled across the country, as I performed in various cities and states. I have also been to China to perform at the Indo-Chinese Cultural Exchange Programme,” said Radhika. While no external force was able to block her inspiring journey, Radhika also mastered the art of Kathak. “I was with my Guru Shubha Dhanajay for four years and got a chance to perform at a number of prestigious events across the country,” said Radhika. Not only blessed with graceful dancing feet, Radhika has also been an excellent painter in her own rights. Her elegant fingers were always covered with paint while she was busy  creating a master piece. Her painting has the ability to make you lose your self in the world of art. “I portray my experience of dancing through my paintings. Playing with colours is something I am born to do,” said Radhika. All this was during her schooling years at Kendra Vidyalaya. To have a degree to her name, she joined Chitrakala Parishath, where she took up visual art and specialised in painting. “I paint whenever I feel like. There are weeks when I don’t paint at all, but there are days, when I stay up at unearthly hours,  just to paint,” said Radhika with the love for her art clearly seen through her glittering eyes. But the artist inside her craved for more and soon Radhika started pouring out her inner thoughts on paper. “In order to pour my feeling out, I started  writing,” said Radhika. Her poems are filled with her perception of life, through the experiences she has been a part of. After graduating with flying colours, she took up contemporary dance and performed as an artist to a youth dance company. “As I learnt, I taught. Apart from choreographing shows with my guru, I had also been a dance instructor at National Public school and choreographed various events,” said Radhika.Currently, Radhika has immersed herself in the lessons she is getting from her guru Kiran Subramanyam in Bhratanatyam. Till date, she has been on stage for more than 500 shows which includes her solo and group performances. And her art was recognised by other as well, as she received awards like Aralu Mallige and Nritya Jyoti. “Soon I will be receiving the Nritya Bhushana (national award) by the end of next month. But I still find it hard to digest the fact that I will be receiving a national award,” said Radhika.Recently, Radhika also published her first book Snatch and Sunshine. “This book is a collection of 30 poems, three short stories and 17 painting, all done by me,” said Radhika. At her recent performance Radhika was on stage, describing her true love for painting, dance and poetry through a show, titled Blue Firs. She performed her classical Bhratanatyam, moving to the lyrics of her mother’s poem Bhavagita. Along with this she painted on stage while she was performing. Blue Fire witnessed a combination of dance, poetry and painting simultaneously.“Blue Fire was one of the most interesting performances ever. I have had a lot of performances before but this was nothing like any of those. To paint and dance was an experiment and it turned out to be truly amazing,” said radhika.Radhika’s next performance will be in Mysore by the end of next month. “I would like to thank my parents and my teachers for their support,” said Radhika and added that dance is everything to her.
