New Delhi: Bollywood starlet and former girlfriend of underworld don Abu Salem, Monica Bedi, on Monday played the perfect devotee when she visited Amritsar’s famous Golden Temple to pay her obeisance.
She cleaned utensils and shoes as the part of “sewa” (services) at the holiest of Sikh shrines. She also swept the marble floor of the shrine.
The former companion of underworld don Abu Salim, who hit headlines after being arrested with Salem in from Portugal 2002, was released on the orders of the Supreme Court last month.
Bedi also paid obeisance at the Temple’s sanctum sanctorum - the Harmandir Sahib.
Clad demurely in a salwar kameez, Bedi was mobbed by mediamen and fans as she entered the shrine.
Appearing unruffled with the attention, she said she had come to seek Guru’s blessings for a secure future. "I feel a lot better and wanted to thank the almighty for helping me out of the crisis (she was involved in two cases of forged passports). I have some offers from Bollywood and also films in the south. I will announce about them at the right time," she told reporters.
This was for the first time that Bedi, after her release from a jail, had ventured out of her ancestral village Chabbewal in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab.
