Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday effected a reshuffle of the State Cabinet and designated P Mohan (61) as Minister for Rural Industries. Mohan is a senior functionary in the AIADMK and he was elected to the State Assembly in 2001 and 2011. During the previous term, he served as Minister for Forests and Environment. Hailing from a farmer’s family, Mohan has been a member of the party since 1972. He served as Chairman of the Chinnasalem Panchayat Union between 1986-1991 and Villupuram South District AIADMK secretary later.
Meanwhile, Jayalalithaa dropped G Senthamizhan, a former minister and MLA representing the Saidapet constituency and the secretary of the South Chennai South district, and P Vetrivel, MLA representing Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar who is also the secretary of the North Chennai North district of the party.
Dr R Lakhsmanan has been appointed as the new secretary of Villupuram North district, while V N Ravi, secretary of the party’s Virugambakkam unit, has been appointed as the new secretary of the party’s South Chennai South district. T G Venkatesh Babu, MGR Mandram joint secretary in North Chennai North district, has been elevated as the secretary of the party’s district unit. Only a few days ago, Rajya Sabha MP N Balaganga was appointed as the secretary of the party’s North Chennai South district.
