CHENNAI: Thanks to two good samaritans, 18-month-old R Priyadarshini, who was reported missing from Kilpauk Medical College Hospital early on Monday, was reunited with her parents in a few hours. The girl’s father Rajesh Khanna (30), a lorry mechanic and resident of Tiruverkadu, had lodged a complaint with the Kilpauk police after his daughter went missing from KMCH around 3.30 am. He had admitted his wife Selvi (27) to the hospital two weeks ago where she gave birth to a baby girl. Rajesh was staying with her in the hospital with Priyadarshini.Even as police formed three special teams and began their search for the missing girl, S Nagavalli (37), a resident of Villupuram, noticed a man leaving a little girl on the premises of the Children’s Hospital in Egmore, after removing her silver anklets. On noticing the crying child, she asked T Gandhi (26), of Padi, who’s wife was in the same hospital, to pick up the child. “She stayed glued to Gandhi as he probably reminded her of her father,” Nagavalli said.In a Tamil newspaper, she saw a picture of the girl with report stating that she was missing from KMCH and informed the police. The constable on duty informed his seniors who took custody of the child and later handed the girl to her father. Nagavalli and Gandhi were given cash reward for displaying a tremendous sense of social responsibility.
