In yet another targeted attack, a migrant worker from Bihar was shot dead by terrorists in south Kashmir’s Anantnag on Wednesday. The man was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A Telegram channel that carries propaganda from The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. The terror organisation has termed the killing as a “gift for your elections”.
As per police, the man has been identified as 35-year-old Raja Shah, son of Shankar Shah, a resident of Bihar.
Officials said that terrorists fired at the man from close range. Shah sustained two bullet injuries on the neck and abdomen.
The firing happened in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag. The whole area has been cordoned off to apprehend the attackers, police said.
The targeted attack on non-local came days before of phase 1 of the Lok Sabha Election 2024. This is the second attack in nine days. Earlier on April 8, terrorists had shot and injured a non-local tourist cab driver in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP chief Mahbooba Mufti has condemned the attack and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
“Condemn this senseless act of violence. My deepest condolences to his family,” she said in a post on X.
